The 2 sides of change

Change is as uncomfortable as it is inevitable, yet the way people react to it can vary dramatically depending on their perspective.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the “2 faces of fear“. Regarding change, I would not say that there are faces, but 2 sides, and curiously, even though they are antagonistic, both can become obstacles to progress and growth.

On one side are those who fear being affected by the change. This side tends to speak out, disagree and immediately generate resistance. Their fear of the unknown drives them to oppose, even if the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks.

On the other hand, there are those who believe they can benefit from the change, but choose to remain silent because they are suspicious that it will actually happen. As a result, they do not express their support or enthusiasm, nor do they help move the change forward.

Both groups, for various reasons, and even though they may benefit, put obstacles and generate resistance, which may eventually discourage the agents of change who are the ones who make the greatest effort to improve things.
