This week I received the following message from Silvia, in response to “Adjust the sails”…
Reading your input today, that problem solving recommendation, I felt that is "just" what I need to learn in my current state.
I'm sure there are many strategies to apply, depending on the problem...
I had a short conversation with Silvia that made me realize that I may have many recommendations on this topic, but it would be too much for a single publication.
For that reason I decided to create a series on problem solving, in which I will share my way of understanding and dealing with problems, as well as the different techniques and tools I use to solve them.
And as I always mention, what I share in this blog is simply my way of thinking, you may agree or disagree, but I hope it will inspire you.
Now, let’s get started with the first publication of this series ☺️.
Personally, I believe there are 3 ways to approach the challenges (or problems) we face:
– Facing them
– Avoiding them
– Fleeing from them
My preferred approach is the first one, to confront them; however, depending on the situation, dodging them or running away can also be a valid option.
To confront a problem is to get right into it. Accept it, learn from it and understand it. Be aware of what caused it and how it affects you and others.
If the problem is not very important, does not affect you directly or you do not have enough energy to deal with it right now, avoiding it may be a valid option. But if you make this decision, I recommend you be aware of the consequences. You will eventually have to deal with it, so it’s best to do so before it becomes critical.
The third option is to run away from the problem. Sometimes, especially if the challenge is so great that it overwhelms you, the natural reaction is to run away. The downside of this is that as time goes on, the problem will continue to grow and at some point you will have to deal with it.
👇 Tip of the Day 👇
- Decide how you want to deal with the problem in question.
If you are currently dealing with a problem, the first step is to decide how you want to address it.
My recommendation will always be to face it, but as I explained above, the other options are valid, only you know which is the right choice.
Tomorrow we continue with the second part.
