All the documentation I have seen (and everything I have experienced) confirms that positive thinking improves people’s confidence, performance and mental health.
I don’t mean that positive thinking will allow you to do or achieve anything, but it has been proven time and time again that thinking positively gives better results compared to negative thinking.
So why is it so difficult to do so if it is so beneficial?
Personally, I think that for many people, negative thinking feels good or natural. However, there are others who find themselves in such an ingrained loop that they simply don’t know how to stop thinking negatively.
When we meet someone from this last group (or if you are also part of this group), the typical superficial advice: “Think positive” ends up doing more harm than good, since the person, in addition to the discomfort that negativity already causes, will also feel bad for not knowing or not being able to change those thoughts…
👇 Tip of the Day 👇
Here are some practical tips for cultivating positive thoughts:
- Practice gratitude: Take a moment each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for. This will help you focus on the positive.
- Surround yourself with positive people: Positivity is contagious, so surround yourself with people who radiate positivity.
- Challenge your negative thoughts: When you find yourself thinking negatively, stop and question the validity of those thoughts. Look for evidence that contradicts them.
- Visualize: This can help you increase your confidence and motivation.
- Focus on the present: Negative thoughts are often related to anxiety generated by thinking about the future or regrets about the past. Try to focus on the present.
Remember, thinking positively takes practice and patience, but the benefits to your well-being and happiness are totally worth it.
