After Bucharest, Milan, and Barcelona, Lisbon was the last stop of the events we organized together with Dr. Bradley Nelson.
And while I wait to board the flight to my next destination, I’ll share with you the 6 highlights of my week.
H1: The brain after death
Recently, I had the opportunity to read a study published by scientists from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital (New York), about what happens in the human brain after death, and the results are surprising.
Although the heart stops beating, the brain tries to stay alive by modifying its RNA, a process crucial for protein production and the health of the organism.
The most striking aspect of the study is that the scientists were able to demonstrate that the brain can remain active for hours after clinical death.
This finding validates previous research suggesting that consciousness can persist even after death.
Research published in the Official Journal of the European Resuscitation Council found that people can be aware of their death at the very moment of death, and that consciousness remains active after death.
Another study, published in Nature Communications revealed that, just before and after clinical death, the human brain shows a series of neuronal oscillations, especially in the gamma band.
Truly fascinating.
H2: Tachyons
Despite being known (theoretically) and having been the subject of study for decades, the existence of tachyons has never been empirically proven.
However, a group of scientists (from the universities of Warsaw and Oxford) have proposed a new theoretical framework that could finally explain this phenomenon, thus eliminating many of the paradoxes that have always surrounded tachyons.
If you are wondering what a tachyon is, it is a subatomic particle that, in theory, can travel faster than the speed of light.
Although they are often said to be able to “time travel,” theory suggests that they have quantum behavior, meaning that they can exist simultaneously in multiple timelines and locations.
This research opens new doors to our understanding of time and space, and directly challenges Einstein’s theory of relativity.
If confirmed, it could revolutionize our view of the universe and the laws that govern it.
H3: Character according to Aristotle
I’ve already shared videos of him and mentioned him in several blog posts…
From the first time I saw an interview with Dr. Manuel Sans Segarra, I was completely captivated by his way of explaining complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
Since then, I don’t miss any podcast or interview in which he is a guest.
Today, I want to share with you this excerpt from Dr. Segarra in which he explains (to his interviewer) how character is structured, according to Aristotle.
H4: Technology, magic and the future
One of the things that fills me with satisfaction and joy is sharing experiences and conversations with amazing people that I have admired for years.
And that is exactly what has happened this past month with Dr. Bradley Nelson.
We have shared stories and conversations that have not only inspired me, but have also awakened deep reflections in me.
During our dinner yesterday, while discussing technology, innovation and other fascinating topics, Dr. Brad shared with me Clarke’s third law:
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” – Arthur C. Clarke
Clarke’s story is fascinating. He was a scientist, popularizer and writer of science fiction works such as “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “The Sentinel”.
But what strikes me is how he was able to combine his scientific side with his creative side.
Clarke was able to imagine and describe things in such a way that he made them seem real (long before they were), such as satellite communications, personal computers and space exploration.
MY conclusion:
Once something feels real, turning it into a reality is a lot easier.
H5: Imagination (reflection)
Imagination is much more than a simple escape from reality.
It is probably the most powerful tool we have to understand, transform and even create it.
Thanks to imagination, we can conceive the seemingly impossible, glimpse the invisible, define the undefined and order the chaotic.
It is the bridge that connects the known with the unknown, the catalyst that drives progress and evolution.
But the real magic of imagination lies not in inventing fantastic worlds, but in revealing hidden facets of reality.
By looking through this creative lens, we can question the established, challenge the limits of current knowledge and glimpse new possibilities that previously seemed unattainable.
H6: Nothing happens twice
In response to last Sunday’s blog post “Living“, Carolina P sent me this video of Wisława Szymborska, winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize for literature.
